The Parable of The Rich Renter
Would you find it odd that someone with nearly unimaginable wealth would choose to rent and not own a residence to live in? And, not only that, but to invest a large sum of money into the rental and then walk away from it leaving the equity to the actual owner? Seems a bit extravagant perhaps. It’s not something most of us would do because…well, we don’t have that kind of disposable income where dropping millions of dollars on something we don’t own and won’t receive a return from wouldn’t adversely impact our bank account.
But what if we understood that the lives you and I have are really on loan from God! In other words, we don’t own anything—God owns us! We come into this world with nothing and leave the same way. We have control over very little actually. Steve relays the story of a rich businessman he did an extravagant remodel for on someone else’s property. It is an example of how we are to invest in our own personal remodel, which God owns, in order to provide honor and a return on His investment.
