Building Your House On Sand

Given the options of building your personal residence on sand or solid rock…Jesus made it pretty clear that sand was not the soil of choice. The parable known as: The Two Foundations in Matthew 7:24-29 wraps up Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount teaching. The problem is this…The parable isn’t really speaking about foundations…it’s addressing the soil condition you place your foundation upon.

In the parable, Jesus mentions the wise guy who attached his house’s foundation to solid rock; however, there is no mention of a foundation for the foolish guy who just built his house right on the sand. The same storm hits each one and the results are in: solid rock wins…sand loses. The apostle Paul makes it clear in 1 Corinthians 3:11 that there is only one foundation that will weather the ultimate storm coming upon us all and that is the foundation of Jesus Christ: our defense attorney! The world you and I live in is nothing but sand. It’s like dry sand dunes everywhere. Now, if you’re into sand buggies…that’s paradise; but as far as building goes, it’s a nightmare.

In this episode, Steve explains how he built several large beach houses right on the sand…the place Jesus said was not such a smart thing to do. However, with Jesus as our rock solid reliable foundation—we can build an amazing residence over the subjective cultural shifting sands beneath us without any worry or concern of a collapse.
